Keratoconus Gas Permeable Lenses
Keratoconus gas permeable lens (GP lens) is a specially design design lens for keratoconus cornea. It is not the same as the normal contact lens and need proper assesment and follow-up. This contact lens also require a special set of cleaning solution different from other contact lenses.
Keratoconus is the condition when our normal cornea progressively thins and this effect the vision. It is usually diagnosed in young people.
In the early stages, spectacles or soft contact lenses may be used to correct vision. As the cornea becomes thinner and steeper, rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses are often required to correct vision more adequately. In very advanced cases, where contact lenses fail to improve vision, a corneal transplant may be needed.
Here in Vantage Vision Care we perform:
1. Vision (reading chart)
2. Refraction (spectacle test)
3. Cornea examination ( slit lamp exam)
4. Corneal scan (corneal topography )
Any necessary contact lens checks will also be undertaken. With the results, we will discuss with you what type of visual aid best suit your need.
